Msplinks
Msplinks, otherwise known as MySpace Links, is a system that was integrated into MySpace quite some time ago. Basically, it would go on to change the way outgoing links were displayed on profiles and also shake up the search engines with a big loss of backlinks for many of the big resource websites. Anytime a user saves their profile with an outgoing link, it’s automatically changed to a unique msplink which is a redirect! Msplinks ranks for many terms in google and other search engines now, thanks to the resource websites - so a tip here, make sure you add the nofollow attribute to ALL backlinks on your layouts, graphics and so on… Reason for this is, to stop Msplinks from ranking for our terms - we’re helping them, so make sure you add that nofollow attribute.
This was just the beginning though… Months later we see a preview of something MySpace are working on with Msplinks… They had it running for a couple hours, so we can only assume that they are going to impliment this new system soon. Instead of redirecting outgoing links, MySpace will soon show a warning page to users… Now, although this is great for SPAM and MySpace, it’s real bad for resource websites. Many sites will lose alot of traffic when this new system is implimented.
